[Epic Free Game] Dead Island 2

Dead Island 2 — Dambuster Studios' gory open-world zombie shooter set in a quarantined Los Angeles — was free on the Epic Games Store for a week last May. It leans into over-the-top, physics-driven melee combat and a dark sense of humor rather than pure survival-horror dread, letting you carve through hordes with a growing arsenal of improvised and increasingly ridiculous weapons. Coming several years after its long, famously troubled development, this giveaway was a notable moment for a game that took nearly a decade to actually ship.
